Six year old New Zealand girl tries to stop axe robbery at dad's shop<br/>A young girl has been hailed as "the bravest six-year-old in New Zealand" after she tried to stop an axe-wielding robbery at her father's electronics store.
Sarah Patel was at her father Suhail's electronics shop in Auckland when six 16-year-olds armed with axes stormed in on Monday afternoon, One News reports.
CCTV footage shows a frightened employee named Jordan backed up against a wall by one of the gang who approaches him with a blade.
As Sarah's father flees, the girl runs towards the armed man and grabs at his leg before quickly turning and running away.
"I thought it was my dad," Sarah said in a TV interview.
When the bandit turned towards her and she realised it was not her father she ran.
Sarah said she was trying to help the employee and for that her father was very proud.
"I think she thought they were trying to hit (the employee) she maybe thought she could help (him)," Mr Patel said.
"It all happened very quickly. I think we are all very glad it was not worse."
Mr Patel said the incident had left his daughter shocked but was she was not physically injured.
Five of the six suspects were caught by police after a dramatic chase through Auckland.
They are facing charges of aggravated robbery, injuring with intent, and breaching bail, police said.
A sixth suspect remains on the run.
